Anfernee Simons, born in Altamonte, Florida is a young talented professional basketball player for the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before being drafted in 2018, he was playing for the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

The talented player was the first American player to enter the NBA draft straight after graduating from high school since the implementation of the age limit in 2005. During the 2021 NBA All-Star Game event, he won the Slam Dunk Contest by a 3-2 judge’s decision.

High School Career

Simons began his career as a young lad, but it took shape when he joined Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida. He joined the school team, in his sophomore year he averaged 17.8 points, 4.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and 1 steal per game in 30 appearances.

Before graduating from the institution in 2017, he had averaged 23.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in 20 games. The basketball star later moved to IMG Academy in Bradenton for his postgraduate year due to his reclassification in the Class of 2018.

Prior to his draft, he was ranked as a five-star recruit by in 2018. Following the rank, he committed to play for the University of Louisville. However, he later changed his mind following a basketball sex scandal in the University and corruption involvement in the 2017-18 NCAA Division I men’s basketball.

In March 2018, he made the decision to bypass college and forward his name for the 2018 NBA draft. He went ahead and removed his name from the 2018 Nike Hoop Summit and Jordan Brand Classic. He was among the 69 players selected for the 2018 NBA Draft Cobine.

Professional Career

Despite bypassing the college career he was picked with the 24th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2018 draft. Being a high schooler and earning an NBA draft, he became the third high school graduate to be drafted since 2015.

On January 21st, 2018, Blazers announced they had officially signed Simon. The following Blazers assigned him to the Agua Caliente Clippers for an NBA G League.

Simon made his official debut for the Blazers in April 2019 against Sacramento Kings. Being one of the best he made history in his first high scoring a career-high of 37 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists. Achieving this he became the first Trail Blazers rookie to score 30+ points since Damian Lillard.

In 2021 he managed to clinch the Slam Dunk Contest during the NBA All-Star Game in the championship round. His win was determined by a 3-2 judge decision.

In 2022, he made a spectacular performance after scoring a career-high of 43 points behind nine three-pointers, along with seven assists. In a postgame interview, he dedicated the win to his grandfather who had passed the previous night.
