Laney played college basketball at Rutgers University, where she was a three-time All-Big Ten selection. In her WNBA career, Laney has been known for her versatility and her ability to contribute in multiple areas of the game.

Laney began her basketball career at an early age. As a senior she averaged 23.7 points, 10 points, 4.4 steals, 4.3 assists as well as 1.2 blocks per game. Laney was named in McDonald’s All-American. She completed her high school career playing 129 games with 107 starts as well as averaging 10.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
Laney played 32 games as a freshman year where averaging 6 points per game and made it to the Big East All-Freshman Team. In her sophomore year, she played in 30 games and spent an average of 31 minutes on the court, and finished the season averaging 9.7 points per game. As a junior, Laney played in 35 games to end the season with 11.8 points per game.

The Chicago Sky Selected Laney with the 17th overall pick in the 2015 WNBA draft and in her rookie season playing for the Chicago Sky, averaging 2.8 points as well as 2.1 rebounds in 33 games. Furthermore, Laney signed with the Perth Lynx for the 2015-16 WNBL season.
Laney returned to the Chicago Sky for the 2016 WNBA season though on 8th June she was ruled out for the rest season after tearing her left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
