Chelsea Gray is a popular American basketball star and a player for the Los Vegas Aces of the Women’s National Basketball Association (NBA). In the 2014 WNBA Draft, Gray was the eleventh pick.

During the 2014 WNBA season she missed the season due to injury. Moreover, she made her debut with the Sun in the 2015 WNBA season.

Career.


In the 2014 WNBA Draft, she was drafted eleven overall by Connecticut Sun. She did not participate in the 2014 season due to the injury to her right knee that she sustained in her senior year while playing at Duke.

In the 2015 season, she returned back healthy where she averaged 6.9 ppg for the Sun. Before the 2016 season, Gray was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks together with two first-round picks on the 2p16 WNBA Draft as well as first-round pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft in exchange for the draft right to Jonquel Jones.

Gray joined a strong squad with Candace Parker, Kristi Toliver and Nneka Ogwumike she came off the bench like the backup point guard on the Sparks list. She played 33 games with 1 start as well as averaging 5.9 ppg.

Gray’s breakout season in 2017 was when she scored a career high 25 points, in a 74-73 loss to the Atlanta Dream. She was voted into the 2017 WNBA All-Star Game and made her first career all-star game appearance. Furthermore, she finished off the season leading the league in three-point field goal percentage and averaged a career high in scoring, rebounds, assists, and minutes as the Sparks finished second place in the league with a 26-8 record and received a double bye to the semi-final.

Gray started playing the points guard after Toliver left the Sparks in free agency to join the Washington Mystic, following Gray’s heroic off the bench performances in the Finals, and breakout season in 2017 while scoring a career-high 25 points in a 75-73 loss to the Atlanta Dream.  She was also voted into the 2017 WNBA All-Star Game and made her first career all-star game appearance.

In 2018, Gray was voted into the 2018 WNBA All-Star Game for the second career all-star appearance. She managed to finish off the season by averaging a new career high in scoring, steals, assists and rebounds.

In 2019, Gray re-signed with the Sparks, on 7 July 2019, she recorded her first triple-double with 13 points, 13 assists as well as 10 rebounds in a 98-81 wins over the Washington Mystic and becoming both the third player in the Sparks franchise history to record a triple-double.  Furthermore, she was voted into the 2019 WNBA All-Star Game and made her third all-star appearance.

On 29 August 2019, she scored a career-high 30 points in an 87-83 win over the Indiana Fever.  At the end of season, the Sparks finished as the number 3 seed with a 22-12 record receiving a bye to the second round.

In 2020, she scored a season-high 27 points in an 80-76 victory against the Connecticut Sun. In 2021, Gray signed a multi-year deal with the Las Vegas Aces as a free agent.

Overseas Career

Gray played Israel for Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion before her first WNBA season in the 2014-15 off-season. She also played in Spain for Uni Girona CB for the first portion of the off-season, spending the second portion of the off-season playing in Turkey for Abdullah Gul University in the 2015-16 off-season.

Gray re-signed with Abdullah Gul University for the 2016-17 off-season and also she signed with Botas SK for the 2017-18 off-season. In addition, she signed with Fenerbahce of the Turkish League in July 2020.
