Who is Cheryl Reeve?

Cheryl Reeve is an American Basketball head coach as well as the general manager for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA. She has coached the Lynx to four league championships. Cheryl has the highest winning percentage as well as won the most games of any female coach and also won the most postseason games o any coach. In addition, she was named the WNBA Coach of the Year in 2011, 2016, and also 2020 and WNBA Basketball Executive of the Year in 2019.

Career

Cheryl started her as an assistant coach rather alma mater, LaSalle for two years. She also served for five years at  George Washington as an assistant coach. In 2001, Cheryl began her career in the WNBA with the Charlotte Sting as an assistant to Anne Donovan.

In the 2002 campaign, Donovan became head coach of the Seattle Storm. Dan Hughes and the Cleveland Rockers hired Cheryl away from Charlotte, the Rockers improved to the playoffs in the same year. In addition, she spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Detroit Shock and also served as the team’s last general manager before they moved to Tulsa.

Cheryl has served as an assistant coach for Team USA in the last two Olympics, in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 as well as Tokyo in 2020. Prior to joining the coaching staff, Cheryl worked as an assistant for the 2014-16 USA national Team and won gold medals at the 2014 FIBA World Cup Team as well as the 2016 Olympic Games. Moreover, she returned as an assistant for the 2018 World Cup Team which won gold as well as qualified the United States for the Olympics in 2020.

On 8 December 2009, Cheryl was named head coach of the Minnesota Lynx, where she finished 13-21 in her first season and missed the playoffs after the Lynx was hampered by injuries to Candice Wiggins and Seimone August. Cheryl, rook her team back to the playoffs in her third year and her team qualified for the playoffs after just 21 games, the fastest in franchise history and he became the winningest coach in Lynx franchise history on 26 August 2012. In 2013, Cheryl with her colleague staff coached the WNBA Western Conference All-Star Team as the Lynx had won the conference championship in 2012.

Cheryl is currently the winningest coach in franchise history, both in terms of games won as well as winning percentage. She is the winningest coach in WNBA history by percentage. On 2 June 2014, She defeated the San Antonio Star to win her 100th regular-season game. Furthermore, she won her 31st postseason game a semi-final victory over the Phoenix Mercury to move into first place in the WNBA playoff win.

In 2016, a panel of media representatives named Cheryl the WNBA coach of the year. Moreover, she was also promoted to Lynx General Manager in 2017.
