Who Is Edinson Cavani?
Edinson Cavani, born on 14th February 1987 in Salto, Uruguay. He is an Uruguayan footballer who plays for Manchester United, a premier league club, and Uruguay national team as a striker. In this era, he is seen as one of the best strikers in the world.
Prior to joining Manchester United, he played for several teams including, Danubio in Montevideo where he started his career. He then joined Palermo in 2007 where he only spent four seasons and then moved to Napoli in 2010. However, with Napoli, he was signed on Loan, and later they signed him permanently in a transfer fee worth €17 million. After Napoli, he joined Paris Saint-Germain( PSG) in 2013, in transfer fee which was reported to be €64 million. Finally, in 2020, he joined Manchester United.
Being one of the best he has made different achievements. With PSG he managed to win six Ligue 1 titles, Five Coupes de la Ligue and four Coupes de France. Professional Career
Palermo
His career started in Montevideo in a club called Danubio. As a result of his good performance at the 2007 South American Youth Championship that caught the eyes of Palermo chairman, Maurizio Zamparini led to him being signed by Palermo. Before being signed by the club other bigger clubs, such as Juventus and Milan were interested in him but the Palermo chairman announced he had already signed Cavani. The announcement of his signing was announced on 29th January 2007. Cavani was signed in a transfer fee worth €4.475 million which was confirmed on 31 January.
Cavani made his first debut for Palermo on 11th March 2007. In addition, he also scored his first goal on his first debut which helped Palermo equalize against Fiorentina. In the second season, he was in a tight position as he found himself fighting for a place in the first team with Fabrizio Miccoli and Amauri. However, after Amauri left for Juventus he established himself in the Palermo starting lineup. Moreover, during the 2008-09 season, they formed a spectacular striking duo with Fabrizio which was dubbed as “El Matador” and managed to score 14 goals in that season. Cavani managed to retain his place in the 2009-10 season with new manager Walter Zenga. Before he was sent to Napoli on loan he had become an important pillar in Palermo. Move to Napoli
In April 2010, he signed a four-year contract with Palermo which was supposed to expire in June 2014. However, three months later he signed with Napoli but on a loan worth €5 million. In addition, the contract had an option of outright buy of €12 million making a total of €17 million.
Cavani made his first debut for Napoli in the UEFA Europa League in a match against Elfsborg. As usual, he scored two goals on his first debut helping Napoli to qualifier for the main tournament. Cavani started his Serie term with Napoli, where he scored a controversial goal seven minutes after the game started.
At the end of the 2010-11 season, he received a red card and Napoli had only two games remaining. With him on the bench for two games it meant he will not retain his position as Serie A top scorer as Antonio Di Natale surpassed him with 26 goals. Cavani managed to sign a new five-year contract with Napoli before the start of the 2011-12 season. Move to Paris Saint-Germain
Despite declaring he was not ready to Leave Napoli not unless he was offered a good deal, on 16th July 2013 Cavani moved to PSG, the French champions club in a five years contract. The transfer fee was reported to be around €64 million, the fee became the sixth-largest transfer in history. Moreover, the fee made Cavani the record signing player in French football history, after surpassing Radamel Falcao’s fee of €60 million after moving to Monaco.
Cavani made his debut for PSG on 9th August 2013, as a substitute coming in the 72nd minute. Nine days later he started the game and also scored his first goal for the club. In addition, he scored his first Champions League goal on 17th September in their European season opener against Olympiacos.
