Who is Ezi Magbegor?

Ezi Magbegor is a famous basketball player for the Melbourne Boomers of the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) as well as a player for the Seattle Storm of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Ezi also was a member of the Australian Women’s basketball team (Opals) at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. 

Background Career

Ezi started her career at an early age at the Lake Ginninderra College in Canberra where she was trained in athletics and basketball. Her professional career started at the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) for the development team. At the age of 17 years, Ezi was signed by Canberra Capitals to play for the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL).

Ezi signed a three-year deal with Melbourne Boomers in March 2018. In 2020 she was named the Betty Watson Australian Youth Player of the Year (Rookie Award) at the WNBL Award by scoring 38 votes from the possible tally of 42 votes.

The Center player appeared in the 2009 WNBA draft where she was the 12th overall pick by the Seattle Storm. Furthermore, she joined the team for the 2020 season. The season was full of complications due to the Seattle Storm’s head coach whose cancer diagnosis made him weak, despite the team’s challenges the Storm ended up winning the championship.

In her international career, Ezi made her international debut as a 16-year-old with U19 Gems at the FIBA Under 19 World Championship in Russia. Later she presented the U17 Sapphire at the 2005 Oceania Championships. Together with, her teammates she was named to All-Tournament Team. She also received the Most Valuable Player Award.

During her senior level in 2017, Ezi was named to her first Opals Squad, earning her place in the first camp. In addition, she was named to the final roster for the 2018 Commonwealth Games where she would make her Opals debut.

Ezi was born in 1999 in Wellington, New Zealand, to Nigerian parents, She has four siblings. Her two older brothers Elo and Ovie play college basketball. However, her family relocate to Australia when she was six-year Currently, she is studying for a Bachelor of Psychology at Deakin University. Initially, she was studying for a Bachelor of Commerce in 2019.
