Leonard Williams is an American football defensive end, currently playing for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). New York Drafted William with the sixth overall pick in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He used to play college football at USC.
Career
Williams started his career at college, as a true freshman, he began nine of thirteen games at defensive tackle where he recorded 64 tackles, 8 sacks as well as an interception in 2012. Moreover, he was named the Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year. In his sophomore year, he was moved from tackle to defensive end in 2013. He was named a first-team All-Pac-12 selection and was an All-American by ESPN, after recording 74 tackles as well as 6 sacks.
Williams recorded 80 tackles and seven sacks in his junior career in 2014. Furthermore, he was named Team MVP, first-team All-Pac-12 as well as an All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and ESPN.
Professional Career
New York Jets selected Williams sixth overall in the first round of the 2015 draft. Apart from Darrell Russell in 1997, Williams was the highest selected USC defensive lineman. He signed a four-year $18.6 million contract on 8 May 2015.
In the 2015 season, Williams made his professional appearance on 11 August 2015, in the first pre-season game over the Detroit Lions though he never record a stat. In his second pre-season game over Atlanta Falcons on 21 August 2015, he managed to make 4 tackles, including a sack on T. j. Yates is in the endzone for a safety. Moreover, in his regular-season appearance over the Cleveland Browns on 13 September 2015, he made a total of 5 tackles. On 6 December, he recorded his first sack in a Giants-Jets rivalry game. In 16 games of his rookie year in 2015, he made 63 tackles with 3 sacks.

In the 2016 season, Williams had a total of 7 sacks on the season as well as recognition of his great play, he was selected as a first-team alternate for the 2017 Pro Bowl. 2017 season, he started all 16 games, recording a career-low 47 tackles as well as two sacks. In the 2018 season, Williams was disqualified for the first time in his NFL career after throwing a punch on Bryan Bulaga. On 29 December he was fined $43,449, which included a hit on Aaron Rodgers.
In the 2019 season, Williams was traded to the New York Giants for the 2020 third-round pick as well as a 2021 fifth-round pick. Furthermore, he forced a fumble on former teammate Ryan Fitzpatrick which was recovered by teammate Sean Chandler in the 36-20 win, in Week 15 over the Miami Dolphins.
In the 2020 season, Giant placed the franchise tag on Williams on 16 March 2020. On 22 April 2020, he signed the one-year tender and on 2 August, he was placed on the active/non-football injury list at the start of training camp, he was activated on 14 August. Furthermore, he won the NFC Defensive Player Of The Week Award for his best performance. His performance brought him to 11.5 sacks on his season. In the 2021 season, Williams signed a three-year with the New York Giant for a $63 million contract including $45 million guaranteed as well as a signing bonus of $22.50 million. On 9 March 2021, the Giants team placed the franchise tag on Williams for the second consecutive season.
