Paolo Banchero, born in 2002 is an Italian-American basketball player playing college basketball for Duke Blue Devils of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The young star is highly considered for the 2022 NBA draft as he has been listed among the 2022 NBA Mock Draft.

He was ranked as a consensus five-star recruit, in the class of 2021, he was named as one of the top players. In 2022, he was named the ACC rookie of the Year.

Paolo Banchero Early Life

Banchero was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He was born with sports blood flowing in his blood veins.

While growing up he was playing both American footballs and at the same time, he was playing basketball. He grew up watching his mother, a veteran basketballer and he admired being like her one day.

He perfected his tantalizing talent at the O’Dea High School in Seattle. However, when he joined the school he was playing American football before he discovered Basketball was his life and decided to take it to the next level.

In his first year, he went on to average 14.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game on the basketball team. In his Sophomore year, he took the notch higher averaging 18.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, leading O’Dea to the Class 3A state championship.

As a result, he was named the most valuable player. As a junior, he led the Class 3A runners-up with 22.6 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game.

The young player was then named Washington Gatorade Player of the Year and MaxPreps National Junior of the Year honors. Banchero was selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic.

Recruiting and College Career

Following his dominance in his high school career, he was ranked as a consensus five-star recruit in 2021. On top of that, he was named one of the top players in the 2021 class.

Duke, Washington, and Kentucky were among the teams that thirsted for his services. Most people predicted that the young player was going to commit to Washington. Surprisingly the young player committed to playing for the Duke in 2020.

In his college debut, he scored 22 points in a 79-71 win against Kentucky. After making his debut, on 15th November he earned his first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the week.

Since making his debut with the Dukes he has been exhibiting great performance and he is among the top NBA draft for the upcoming 2022 NBA draft.

In his college career, he has been named to the first-team All-ACC and ACC Rookie of the Year. On top of that,  on 15th, March 2022 he was named a Third Team All-American.

Paolo Banchero Family

He was born in a basketball family as his mother Rhonda Smith, was also a basketball player, playing for Washington. She was then drafted with the third pick of the 2000 WNBA draft and she played professionally in the American Basketball League.

After that, she became a basketball coach at Holy Names Academy in Seattle. His father Mario, on the other side also played college football for Washington.

His Uncle also played college basketball. His parents met while they were at the University of Washington.
