Samuel Eto’o, born and raised in the streets of Douala, Cameroon is a former football star now serving as the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation. He took over as the President in December 2021, replacing Seiduo Mbombo Njoya. He led the Cameroonian team to the 2022 African Cup of Nation where they were eliminated in the semi-finals despite Vincent Aboubakar’s efforts.

As a footballer he was one of the best strikers in the world during his era, he is also regarded as one the best African footballer of all time. During his stint as a footballer, he won the African Player of the Year four times before he went on to retire. Internationally he played for Cameroon.

Samuel Eto’o Achievements as a Player and Goals

Being one of the best players of his time he left the pitch with several recognitions such as,

  • African Player of the Year Four Times, 2003, 2004, and  2010.
  • Third place in the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2005
  • FIFA FIFPro World XI, in 2005 and 2006.

When it comes to scoring he was machinery scoring total career goals of 371 goals in 764 appearances.

Etoo is married to Georgette Eto’o, his long-time girlfriend the two married back in 2007  and they have two kids Seine and Lyn. Eto’o also has two other kids Maelle and Ettiene.

 Unknown Daughter

On Feb 17th, 2022, a Madrid Court declared Eto’o as the biological daughter of Erika Do Rosario Nieve, a 22-year old girl n Madrid. Eto’o had earlier refuted the claims of having a daughter in Madrid. He said to have sired the girl in 1999 while he was playing for Leganes with a woman by the name of Adileusa after they met in a club.

Samuel Etoo Career

Eto’o began her career at Kadji Sports Academy in his hometown. He was one of the talented young lads playing for UCD Douala. UCD was a second-division club based in Cameroon.

In 1996, he caught the attention of La Liga giants Real Madrid, a club based in Europe. He was signed by the club in 1997, joining the youth team since he could not play for the senior team as he was a minor.

After Real Madrid team B was relegated he was sent to Leganes a second division club in the 1997-98 season. He came back to Real Madrid in the 1998-99 season where he was sent on loan at Espanyol and later moved to Mallorca still on loan.

After he was sent to Mallorca, he happened his skill and perfected them and Mallorca could not let him leave. At the end of that season, he left Real Madrid and Joined Mallorca in a then club record of £4.4 million fees. With Mallorca, he found a home where he was well received, and in return, he showered them with spectacular performances before moving to Barcelona. By the time he was leaving he was the club’s all-time top-scorer with 54 goals.

Barcelona and Other Clubs

In 2004 he moved to Barcelona where he also perfected his game more. One year after joining the club he won his third African Player of the year having won in 2003 and 2004. Eto’o established his name to the football world when he joined Barcelona and rose in prominence and everyone was talking about his striking tactics.

He stayed with the Spanish club for five years and then moved on to Inter Milan. In order to join Inter Milan, the two clubs had an agreement whereby Barcelona would take Zlatan Ibrahimovic in exchange for Eto’o and €46 million. Inter Milan president confirmed that he was impressed by Eto’o adding it was the best business deal he had ever done referring to him as “extraordinary”.

From Inter Milland he headed to Anzhi Makhachkala a Russian club on 23rd August 2011. This was after the club reached an agreement with Real Madrid, his move to the club made him the highest-paid footballer earning a salary of €20 million per season.

After the 2012-13 season ended Anzhi’s owner decided to surprise everyone after he suddenly shrank the club’s budget and all the stars were made available in the Transfer market.

Move to Chelsea and Retirement

After he was auctioned by his former boss Eto’o landed in the hands of Chelsea, a premier league club. He signed a one-year contract with the club on 29th August 2013. Eto’o continued to show spectacular performance throughout the season scoring 12 goals in 35 appearances.

At the end of the 2013-14 season, his contract with the blues expired and he moved to Everton in August 2014, where he signed a two-year contract with them. Despite signing a two-year contract he left the club without completing the season with four goals in 20 appearances. From 2015 to 2019, he played for four teams, Sampdoria, Antalyaspor, Konyaspor, and Qatar SC.

After playing the game for over two decades it was time to hang the boots. On 7th September 2019, Eto’o announced his retirement from football and went back to his motherland in Cameron.
