Satou Sabally is a German-American basketball star player. She plays for the Dallas Wings in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the German national team. Sabally was born in 1998, in New York City. Her father is a Gambian, while her mother is from Germany. She grew up in a sports-oriented family, her mother was a professional handball player, and her father played basketball. Sabally started playing basketball at a young age and began her youth career with Alba Berlin. She then moved to the United States to attend the University of Oregon, where she played college basketball for the Oregon Ducks from 2017 to 2020. During her college career, Sabally was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team, the All-Pac-12 Team, and the All-Pac-12 Defensive Team. She helped lead the Ducks to the 2019 NCAA Final Four. After her junior year, she decided to forgo her senior year and declared for the 2020 WNBA draft.
Career Background
Sabally started her professional career with the German team Rhein-Main Basket in 2016, where she played for two seasons. In 2018, she decided to move to the United States to attend the University of Oregon and play college basketball. After three seasons with the Oregon Ducks, Sabally declared for the 2020 WNBA Draft, where she was selected as the second overall pick by the Dallas Wings.
