Who is Tiffany Hayes?

Tiffany Hayes is a popular American-Azerbaijani basketball star. She is currently playing for the Atlanta Dream of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She used to play college basketball at the Connecticut Huskies, she also played for the 2009 and 2010 NCAA National Champions.

 Career

Tiffany started her career by playing basketball at Winter Haven School in Winter Haven, Florida. She helped her team to compile a 117-9 record and also won the state championship in 2004 as well as 2007.  She was also lead her team to score an average of 18.3 points per game. Tiffany was one of the players to participate in the 2008 Nike SPARQ Training ‘My Better’ Championship event where she finished the preliminary round among of the top twenty-two out of the 3000 high school athletes competing. In the female competition, she finished second where the finishers were flown to Nike World Headquarters for the final.

Tiffany attended the University of Connecticut Huskies. In 2006 she became interested in UConn where assistant coach, Tonya Cardoza saw her playing AAU ball. She was invited to the Women’s World University Games Team tryouts, where she made the team as the team’s youngest player and the only freshman. She also contributed to the team’s 7-0 record as well as a gold medal in Belgrade, Serbia. On 26 January, Tiffany set a career high and followed that up with 33 points over South Florida, two days later.

The Atlanta Dream selected Tiffany as the second pick in the second round, the 14th overall pick. She played 34 games with 17  starts in her rookie season, averaging 8.6 ppg as a reserve on the Dream’s roster. Moreover, she was named to the WNBA All-Rookie team. She played 23 games in the second season with 4 starts and averaged 22.3 ppg. During the season the Dream managed to advance all the way to the 2013 WNBA Final though were defeated by the Minnesota Lynx.

Tiffany officially became the starting shooting guard for the Dream in the 2014 season, she averaged 12.9 ppg. She re-signed with the Dream to a multi-year deal once her rookie contract expired in 2016. During the season of 2016, she averaged 15 ppg. In the 2017 season, Tiffany was voted into the 2017 WNBA All-Star Game and making it her very first all-star game appearance. She managed to score an average of 16.3 ppg, though her team finished with a 12-22 record and missed out on the playoff.

Tiffany was voted into the 2018 WNBA All-Star Game, in the 2018 season, and made her second all-star game debut. She completed the 2018 season with a new career high in scoring. Her team Dream finished 23-11 with the number 2 seed in the league receiving a double-bye to the semi-finals. On 10 August 2019, Tiffany managed to score a new-career-high 34 points in an 87-82 loss to the Indiana Fever.

Overseas

During her overseas career, Tiffany used to play for Israel for Hapoel Rishon LeZion in the 2012-13 off-season. In the 2013-14 off-season, she played in Turkey for Besiktas JK for the first portion of the off-season as well as spent the second portion of the off-season in Brazil for America de Recife. She also played again in Turkey for Yakin Dogu during the 2015-16 off-season. In August 2016, Tiffany signed with Mersin BSB S.K for the 2016-17 off-season.

In 2017, She signed with Maccabi Ashdod for the 2017-18 off-season. Furthermore, she signed with Perfumerias Avenida of the Spanish League for the 2019-20 off-season as well as renewed for 2020-21.

During her National team career, Tiffany was a member of the United States Women’s national basketball team that won gold in Belgrade Serbia, during the 2009 Summer Universiade. She also played in the exhibition match victory over China in 2018. Moreover, she became an Azerbaijani citizen in 2015 and played for the Azerbaijan women’s national basketball team at the 2015 European Games which were held in Baku, Azerbaijan 2015. Tiffany also participated in the 3-by-3 basketball event, where her team managed to qualify for the quarterfinals.
