Oscar was born in 1991 to Suely Alvez and the late Oscar Dos Santos Emboaba Sr. His father died when he was only three years old, following his father’s death his mother took full responsibility for raising them and his two sisters Daniela Emboaba and Gabriela Emboaba.

The Americana native began his early career at Uniao Barbarense in 1998 at the age of seven. He left the academy in 2004 to join Sao Paulo’s youth team where he was promoted to the senior team in 2008.
However, despite his promotion to the senior team, his contract with the club ended up having some irregularities, and in 2009 he took the club to court. This sparked controversies right, left, and center.
Following controversies surrounding the court case with Sao Paulo, Oscar moved to Internacional in 2010. He stayed with the club for two seasons from 2010 to 2012 making 58 appearances and netting 15 goals.
His impressive style of play caught Chelsea’s attention and the club went ahead to sign him at a transfer fee worth R$61.575 million in July 2012. Oscar signed a five-year contract with the club and went on to make his debut at the club on the 19th of September 2012 netting two goals in his debut.
Oscar went ahead to make headlines scoring goals after goals at the age of 21 years creating a reputable career at such a young age. Despite signing a five-year contract with the club, after four years and a half, an Asian club requested his services.
In December 2016, Shanghai SIPG a Chinese Super League placed an offer for the Brazilian star and on December 23rd, 2016, the club signed him in a transfer deal worth £67 million.
Though the contract was not open, reports have it that he signed a four-year contract with a weekly salary of £400,000 which was around £20.8 million (US$26.5 million) per year. This made him one of the highest-paid players in the world.
This was the best offer that most players couldn’t turn down despite his career being at risk of deeming. Oscar admitted the offer was favorable to him and he cared more about his family than his career. However, he stated as he was going to make a return to Europe once his contract with Shanghai lapsed. In January 2022 he was linked to FC Barcelona but the move didn’t go through.
Internationally he plays for his home country, Brazil where he has represented the country in different age groups including the U-20 and U23 before making it to the senior team in 2011 and playing until 2015.
