His career started taking shape in 2013 when he joined the Pacos de Ferreira youth team where he progressed to the senior team in 2014. In 2015, he signed a new five-year contract with the club which meant he was going to stick around until 2020.

However, the following year, he signed a new five-year deal with a Spanish club, Atletico Madrid in March 2016. Despite signing the deal in March his contract took effect in July of the same year.

After arriving at Atletico Madrid he never made an appearance with the team as he was sent back to his hometown to join FC Porto on a one-year loan. After his one-year contract ended with the Portuguese club he came back to Atletico Madrid’s camp and he was sent on another mission.

This time around it was in England where he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan in July 2017. He went on to score his first goal for the club the following month over Hull City.

After the long-season loan ended in 2018, Wolverhampton couldn’t let him off the hook and they reached an agreement on a permanent contract. In July 2018, the club declared they had penned down a permanent contract with Jota that attracted a transfer fee worth €14 million.

The versatile striker cemented his name as a complete striker with the Wolves where he was given enough playtime as he was a regular starter. In 2019,  he scored three goals including a hat-trick in the match against Leicester City becoming the second Portuguese player to score a hat-trick after Christiano Ronaldo.

In 2020, his style of play got the attention of Liverpool one of the top-flight teams in the Premier League. According to reports, Jota signed a long-term contract worth a £41 million transfer fee, rising to £45 million with potential add-ons.

Since his arrival at Liverpool, his name is now a household name and he has been giving his best. Following his stunning performances, he was awarded the PFA Fan’s Player of the Month.

International Career

Internationally he plays for the Portuguese national club where he made his debut as a youth player representing the country on different levels including the U-19 and U-12. In 2019 he received his call from the senior team making his first debut during the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier.
