Who is Yann Sommer?
Yann Sommer well known as Yann is a Swiss professional footballer who currently plays as a goalkeeper for Bayern Munich, a Bundesliga club. Internationally, Yann plays for his native country Switzerland’s national team. The Morges native arrived at Bayern’s camp in January 2023 from Borussia Monchengladbach where he had spent 8 and half years making 272 appearances for the club.

Yann Sommer Childhood and Family Background
Yann grew up in a peace-loving family as the only child in the family and he was very close with his parents. Growing up he knew soccer was his future and having supportive parents it was easy for him to start chasing his dreams at a tender age.
His parents wanted to enroll him in a football academy when he was a little boy but at the time there was no academy offering a vacant for preschoolers. Luckily, his father found one newly opened youth set up and enrolled him and from there, his journey to greatness began.

Club Career
Yann can be described as a full product of Basel having joined the club in 2003 after being sharpened at the Concordia. After joining the club in 2003, in 2005 Yann signed his first professional contract with the club becoming the first-choice goalkeeper for the club’s U-21 team.
He spent two years with the U-21 team before earning his promotion to the senior team in 2007. Following his promotion, Yann signed a four-year contract with the club that would see him leave the club in 2011. However, he didn’t start the season with the club as he was sent on loan to Vaduz to gain first-team experience.
After leaving the club in 2007 for a loan stint, Yann made his return to Basel in 2009 making his first team debut for Basel in February 2009. However, he only made six appearances before he moved to Grasshoppers for one season loan.
In 2010, he signed a five-year deal with the club that would see him stay at the club until 2015. After signing the contract he became the club, second-choice goalkeeper staying behind Franco Constanzo.
In 2011, Basel didn’t extend Franco’s contract leaving Sommer the first-choice goalkeeper as Franco became a free agent. He went on toom win four consecutive league titles with the club keeping 65 clean sheets in 170 appearances in all competitions.
After a full decade with the Swiss football club, on March 10th, 2014 Yann moved to the German side joining a Bundesliga club, Borussia Monchengladbach signing a five-year contract with the club. His first season with the club was a success as the club finished 3rd for the first time since 1978. On top of that, the club also broke its record of consecutive unbeaten matches exceeding the 17 times they had recorded in the 1970-71 season.
Gladbach ended up being his home for the next eight years of his career molding him into a top-flight goalkeeper for the top-flight league. After 272 appearances, Yann left the club in January 2023 to join Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich for a two years contract that will see him stick with the club until July 2025.

Yann is married to one beautiful name by the name of Alina. The two began dating in 2019 but officiated their union in August 2019 and welcomed their first child Mila on November 4th, 2019.
